Amazing exhibits

THROUGH your newspaper, I should like to congratulate all those involved with the wonderful centenary celebrations at the Church of St James the Great in East Ham Road, Littlehampton.

I wanted your readers to know of the amazing exhibition that was held to celebrate the centenary of the consecration of the church.

There were marvellous displays of each of the past 10 decades, with so many interesting exhibits.

How entertaining it was to see the old wedding photos with the different dress styles, as well as the wedding, birth and baptism certificates throughout the century.

When speaking with many of the parishioners and Fr Stephen Merriman, I learnt that visitors to the highly-praised exhibition had come from as far away as Harrogate to the north and Guernsey to the south.

After the two weeks of the exhibition, the commemoration events culminated with an uplifting parish eucharist marking the 100th anniversary, celebrated by the Bishop of Chichester, the Rt Rev John Hind.

Following this, a magnificent spread awaited everyone in the church hall, where people enjoyed the lovely food and drink as they chatted happily about the celebratory church service and the exhibition.

I recognise that a great deal of hard work was put into these very successful centenary events by the church and parishioners of St James' and it was much appreciated.

I thoroughly enjoyed the celebrations and I'm sure I speak for many others, too. Well done and congratulations to all!
