Award for ex-Rydon teacher

Young historians from Rydon had the privilege to meet 87-year-old Mrs Weeks as she came to our school to share stories about her husband, a former teacher of Rydon, who has recently been awarded the Arctic Star medal in recognition of his wartime service. Mrs Weeks brought with her his medals and photographs that illustrated the extraordinary experiences he had whilst serving in the Royal Navy and particularly in the convoys that supplied Russia nearly 70 years ago. The pupils, all from Year Eight, were thrilled to talk with someone who had a direct link with such an important part of our history and will not forget this unique event.
