Backing theatre

I AM an active member of a number of local societies and regularly perform in and support many shows and plays at the Windmill Entertainment Centre.

I cannot believe that we are again faced with the threat of closure of such an historic and important part of the community. I have my own business and know very well how hard it is to balance the books, keep to budget and make a profit, but I cannot see any reason why the Windmill cannot be profitable.

I have just read all the letters in last week’s Gazette. The comments with regards to using outside consultants are absolutely right. I worked for a large company in Littlehampton who used outside consultants on a few occasions, where they had huge change. The results were not good.

Departments and individuals went, that have since been brought back, ways of working changed beyond recognition and then reinstated. Why? Because they did not involve the people with the right knowledge and the people who worked within the business.

Of course, everything needs to keep evolving and changing and it is beneficial to have fresh eyes and people who are not emotionally involved, but please, please, please involve the societies and people who use these facilities.

There are people who have great ideas and have excellent business savvy, along with a passion to keep the Windmill open. My wish – if I had lots of money or won enough on the lottery, I would buy that theatre.
