Unsurprisingly perhaps, the director of the DLWP has praised the government’s emergency support for the arts [“Pavilion welcomes ‘critical lifeline’10/7/20]. So that’s the £500k ongoing subsidy plus the £350k ex-gratia from Rother Council and £375k from the Emergency Response Fund. This will hold the line against predicted losses of £1.1m from the live events program due to the corona virus lock down. This does, at least, give a welcome overview of things. Perhaps it may be possible to engage with the town more directly over the summer, with late openings of the building for example? I’d anticipated that my pre-booking to see Loudon Wainright III, his daughter Suzzy and her mother, on September 30th, would be cancelled but maybe there is hope? Coincidentally, readers of the [national] Observer may have noticed that Loudon’s son Rufus had his current album, “Follow The Rules”, featured in the New Review section [12/7/20]. Phil Mongredien opines that Bexhill-on Sea “does not feature too much in music folk lore” a somewhat questionable statement, perhaps he doesn’t get out much? The Unthanks have visited the De La Warr and there have been many others, including promotions by the late lamented Music’s Not Dead store and Rufus himself!
