Branch members manned a stall at the Steyning Farmers’ Market on 5th October and were delighted with the numbers of people who stopped to talk and who made donations to the Poppy Appeal.

On 19th October the Women’s Section will be hosting their Autumn Buffet at the Steyning Centre at 12 noon. Tickets are on sale for £7.00 at Steyning Butchers and Chris Morgan, Fishmonger, both in Steyning High Street.

Tickets are available at the venue and cost £19.95 – £5.00 per ticket and the raffle proceeds will go to the Poppy Appeal.

Throughout October Steyning CE, Washington CE First and Upper Beeding primary schools will be taking part in the second ‘Poppy Painting’ competition run by the Branch.

We were thrilled with the quality and imagination demonstrated by the entrants last year and we were very grateful to the Steyning Art Group for their skill in judging the entries and for displaying the winning pieces of work at their annual exhibition.

We are very pleased that the Arts Group will be judging the competition on Friday 18th October and displaying the winning works again later this year.

Members of the RBL Branch and representatives of the businesses who have sponsored the prizes will be attending the prize giving ceremonies at Washington School on Tuesday 22nd October, at Steyning CE on Wednesday 23rd October and Upper Beeding School on Monday 4 November.

The Poppy Appeal Street Collections will take place in the High Street on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th November and the Service of Remembrance will take place on Sunday 10th November at 10.45 am at St Andrew and St Cuthman Church.

Should anyone want one of these, please contact the Branch Secretary Mr Peter Walker on 01903 815176.

Finally, the Festival Lunch will be held at the Steyning Centre on Thursday 28th November (12.30 for 13.00) when there will be a two course lunch, courtesy of Pam at the Norfolk Arms, complete with a glass of wine and a cup of coffee or tea.
