Cause for concern

HAVING seen and heard so much about the Fitzalan “bypass”, along with the fact that many people do not seem to be aware that two separate jobs are in progress in the vicinity of the schools and Littlehampton police station, I decided to walk the area bounded by East Street, Green Lady footpath and Cornwall Road.

I was staggered to see what lengths had been gone to in preventing the public from viewing the work in progress.

I have to confess some sympathy towards the residents who have now had a major road thrust under their premises.

At least it will be many years hence, after all, it has been coming since 1936!

At least the Connaught Junior School area still retains a reasonable leisure area, even if the old playground and entrance is now occupied by cars.

Let us hope the whole area does not shrink further, after all, in 1940, we did grow cabbages where Arun Vale Infant School now stands.

The one concern I have in respect of the new road is that adequate and safe crossings are provided in East Street and the Cornwall Road/Elm Grove junction, especially as the road curves in the approach to the footpath.
