Thanks to a team of 73 trained parent volunteers, the charity was able to offer their unique ‘befriending’ service to nearly 150 families struggling with problems in areas that are key to long term health and well-being.

“Our work is focused on families with young children,” explained fundraising manager Jacquie Thomas. “As we aim to ensure they are getting the best possible start in life. Families we support can face a range of challenges; last year they included 36 with debt and financial issues, 67 struggling with mental health difficulties and 31 where there was domestic abuse.”

Most of the families that Home-Start CHAMS help are referred to them when the support needed isn’t available elsewhere. Jacquie adds: “There is real demand for what we offer. With the cost of supporting a family averaging £1,400, backing from our local community is vital.”

The charity are launching a Snowflake Appeal next month to highlight the need of vulnerable local families and are inviting the local community to get involved.
