Charity to hold golden anniversary celebrations

SASBAH - the Sussex Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus - was formed in 1965 to meet the growing needs for those in Sussex with the condition to live their lives to the full, and has blossomed ever since.

It supports around 400 families across Sussex, and the Crawley and Horsham Support Group meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Jubilee Oak, Grand Parade, Crawley.

Chief Executive Rom Sanglaji said, ‘We are only relatively small but nevertheless I believe us to be a very warm, friendly and caring charity, and it’s amazing to think that we have reached 50.

‘We are determined to celebrate the anniversary with our service users and families/carers - as always - at the heart of what we will be doing.’

SASBAH provides a wide variety of services, including:

n Support and advice service for members, including education and benefits

n Organises holidays for service users

n Runs a youth club, Bourne Free

n Operates a Duke of Edinburgh centre

n Social activities

n And many community projects.

It also operates a Social Enterprise called SASPIRE, which provides valuable work experience for its members and operates from its offices at Richmond Road, Worthing.

The launch takes place at West Worthing Baptist Church from 6pm on Thursday April 30. Ambassadors for the anniversary year include Meridian News newsreader Sangeeta Bhabra and veteran BBC weatherman Michael Fish.
