Concern the census pays for warfare

I ASSUMED that my government was carrying out the forthcoming census.

I now know that my government has paid £150 million to an American company to complete the census. That company is Lockheed Martin. Sound familiar?

Lockheed Martin is one of the world’s largest arms dealers.

It is responsible for Trident nuclear missiles.

Lockheed Martin sells cluster bombs around the world and supplied contract interrogators to work in Abu Grahib prison in Iraq and Guantanamo on Cuba.

Being an American company, it is covered by the Patriot Act, which gives access to any data in possession of a US company to the US government and security services.

I wonder how safe all the data on all of us will be.

As a pacifist and a Quaker, I cannot, in good conscience, participate in the census as I have no wish to boost the profits of an arms manufacturer.
