County have gone a step too far

EAST Sussex County Council is putting the finishing touches to a flight of replacement steps to the Spring Well in Winchelsea.

These run from Barrack Square at the top and lead, via the Well, to the busy A259 at the bottom.

This lower exit is highly dangerous because the bottom step leads abruptly on to the road on the inside of a bend with extremely poor visibility in both directions. The traffic, in spite of a 30 mph limit, is fast and the probability of a serious accident therefore is extremely high.

In the interest of safety the top flight of steps should terminate at the Well and the lower flight should be removed.

Finally, why, in these straitened times, is this work being done at all?
