Cranleigh pupil gains History prize

Earlier this year well over 800 budding historians entered the oldest and one of the most prestigious of the National Prep School competitions - The Townsend Warner History Prize.

The competition comprises of two exams. The first is a one hour short answer paper, covering some of the more obscure aspects of history. The second is a gruelling two hour essay paper, which only the top 200 performers from paper one go on to take. The top 50 of these finalists are then awarded a prize.

Cranleigh Prep’s Nicholas P, currently in Year 8, successfully navigated the first of the exam papers with a 60% pass and finished 79th in the field. This then entitled him to take part in the 2nd paper and in this he got one of the highest scores in the remaining field of 200. As a result, he finished amongst the prize winners and received a voucher from the organisers, who were particularly impressed with his essay writing.
