Cricket Festival Success for Arundel Friends and Christ’s Hospital

The event took place on the ground that was created by Henry, 15th Duke of Norfolk way back in 1895 and it is a venue that has been graced by many of the world’s best cricketers.

There were nearly 200 participants at the event organised by Christ’s Hospital parent, Mandy Burgess. On arrival each Christ’s Hospital pupil was allocated a team that they were to work with for the day.

Christ’s Hospital’s, Director of Sport David Messenger, said: “Some of the participants had severe learning difficulties but it wasn’t long before they felt comfortable with our pupils who actively encouraged, conversed and engaged with them during this amazing and worthwhile event.”

The day was a tremendous success. Christ’s Hospital pupil Freddie Underwood, said: “Helping at this event was a great experience.”

Tom Carter, the Christ’s Hospital U14 cricket captain, added: “It was a really fun day; the enjoyment that the participants got from the day was amazing.”

The tournament was a great success - with the sun shining, there is no better place in Sussex to play cricket, than Arundel Castle. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day. The tournament could not have taken place without the generous support of Director of Cricket at the Friends of Arundel Castle Cricket Club, John Barclay.

The pupils from Christ’s Hospital thoroughly enjoyed the day and they look forward to assisting again next year.
