Death of shame seems complete

THE picture of the smiling postman/thief (Gazette, May 24) is yet another example of the "death of shame" under Blair's New Labour.

It is an insidious malady infecting all shades of political life and orientation.

Under this present spineless Parliament, whose role has been usurped by lawyers and judges, prison is no longer a punishment, as the inmates are housed in comfort, with NHS treatment on hand, with recreational facilities, and are better-off than being in a hotel.

I guess that is mainly why the prisons are overcrowded.
