Don’t harm trees

I am sorry to see, in this part of town, that girls and boys have taken to expressing their childish frustrations by damaging trees.

Despite the financially-straitened times, Arun District Council does exemplary work in maintaining its many green spaces to a good standard. It is exceptionally annoying to find that taxpayers’ money is being wasted by children.

As Arun knows, environment feeds back to us in positive or negative ways. It is a self-injurious act to degrade one’s own living environment by littering or by damaging public property.

May I appeal to parents and to teachers? It is true, young people do face a difficult future in work and housing, but society has no remedy for despair beyond anti-depressants prescribed through the NHS.

Unless children take a positive view of their future, they will almost certainly have little to enjoy as they grow up.
