Drivers beware July 5, the day parking enforcement changes

AS from July 5, civil parking enforcement (CPE) is scheduled to be launched in Arun district by West Sussex County Council and Arun District Council.

So beware, if you have parked on yellow lines or in an hour's waiting area in the past, from then on you will get a parking fine.

I live in an area where it is all double yellow lines or one hour waiting time – there is nowhere else to park nearby, apart from expensive car parks.

For the last 22 years we residents, people who work in this road, and any visitors to the residents here, have parked in Arun Parade and never been given a parking ticket.

Now it seems we will be.

Our property pays both business rates, and council tax, plus we pay our road tax, but as from July we will have nowhere nearby to park without incurring a parking fine.

Is this fair? Definitely not.

I have written to both Arun and West Sussex and asked where we are expected to park.

Both have replied, but neither have answered this question.

Surely residents and workers must be issued with parking permits before this CPE comes into force – not after incurring fines for parking somewhere near our own homes or work place?
