Eco-Town '“ let's hope the buffoons in charge have second thoughts

SO, the government, in homage to its great "friendly", tax-collecting, money-grabbing god "Eco", has decided that Ford is a possible place to site a new town.

What madness to build on a flood plain which faces two possible future problems, one being the river overflowing and the other encroachment by the sea if the Environment Agency carries out its proposal to leave the crumbling sea defences at Climping beach to their own devices, with subsequent flooding of the farmland up to the A259.

Residents in Wick have already received notices on what to do if flooding is likely.

What madness to believe that the new town will be carbon neutral, whatever that means.

What can be more carbon neutral than farmland which is a haven for wildlife?

Gone will be the relative peacefulness of the area.

Gone will be the dark, starry skies due to the blaze of new street lighting.

Gone will be the marvellous early-morning view of Arundel and its castle rising above the mist in the valley.

What madness to believe that the future residents won't need cars.

Five thousand homes equate to 7,500 cars, not to mention the delivery trucks and the megaton lorries going to the new waste recycling plant, all snarling up the surrounding roads which, at present, are not much more than country lanes.

The proponents of the scheme who have previously written in your letters column must be mighty pleased that they have been able to assist in possibly ruining the lives of those who live in the surrounding villages.

This will, no doubt, sound the death knell for Littlehampton as we know it.

It will probably become one huge McCarthy & Stone home.

Hopefully, the buffoons in charge will have second thoughts, but don't hold your breath.

When our Scottish Prime Minister says "jump", all his underlings say "How high?".

Let us hope we can band together behind our MPs and councillors to put up a darned good fight to get it rejected.
