Excellent for families

AS the schools' co-ordinator for the Bexhill Primary Schools' Council I was delighted to see that the letter which they produced was published, and even more pleased to see that it was appreciated by some, including John Betts, who referred to it in his letter last week.

Their letter was the outcome of a visit to the seafront so that they could see the ongoing work for themselves. I was amazed at the way in which the members of that council, who are all between nine and 11, worked together to evaluate the plans and the work. They are genuinely excited about the prospect of having more to do in Bexhill themselves, as well as more to attract visitors to the town.

Such positive endorsements from the younger generations should be welcomed, as it is they who will maintain, create and ensure the future of Bexhill as a thriving community.

It may interest some to know that, in their discussion, these young people gave particular consideration to all seafront users, regardless of their age and interests.

They fully appreciate that residents who currently use the seafront for walking and sitting will want to continue to do so, and know that this must continue.

They are looking forward to being able to enjoy their own space there too, and believe that the developments will be excellent for families. Given that the developments will make some areas of the promenade a pleasant place for anyone to be, regardless of the weather or season, surely those who like to use it regularly should be as optimistic as the young people in the council.

So, well done to the councillors who are looking at the benefits for everyone and not just for themselves.
