Farlington Prep 6 visit science museum

The first port of call was on Level 1, in the room entitled ‘Who am I?’ This floor was filled with individual hands-on computer-generated work programmes ranging from memory games to spatial awareness tests, personality traits and logical thinking challenges.

Everyone enjoyed putting themselves to the test and an hour raced past in the blink of an eye!

After lunch, it was straight into the IMAX 3D cinema, with a screen taller than six double-decker buses!

The film was entitled ‘Fly Me to the Moon’, and it featured the Apollo II Space Mission, from a fly’s perspective.

Well, actually, three of these Musca Domestica were trapped inside the space rocket and blasted off to the Moon. The flies reported on what it was like to live in a small space shuttle for a long time and described the landscape on the Moon in detail. There was even a special feature at the end of the film when Buzz Aldrin, the lunar module pilot (who heard Neil Armstrong say, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”) spoke about the mission.

Before heading back home, the girls looked more closely at the actual lunar landing module which was on display, and also Stephenson’s Rocket, which was built by the great- great-great-grandfather of Sophie Rowland, a Farlington Prep 6 pupil!

It had been a “grand day out” for all, to quote Wallace and Gromit.
