Fishing shame

SO, two more fishermen are forced to pay high mooring charges, because Littlehampton Harbour Board gives them notice to get out.

The Hunter family have been fishing out of Littlehampton for more than 40 years, if my memory is right and Dan Clark has been there for almost as long. Small, one-man businesses scraping a living are thrown out without alternative, realistic accommodations for their trade.

Councillors should be working with local people, and did the leisure and commercial representative of the board support these fishermen, as the harbour is the central attraction of Littlehampton?

Commercial fishermen, along with shipping, charter boats and leisure crafts are why people flock to see and be a part of the harbour.

It makes you wonder if there are any riparian members on the harbour board.

Some years ago I was shown plans of this area north of the Arun View (east side), with housing all along, parallel to the river. Perhaps this is coming back. Leases and contracts can be bought back especially if commercial shipping is in decline.

It is a shame our elected public servants always knows better.
