Flooding help

The new Flood Action Group in Littlehampton has a public open evening at the Look & Sea Centre on Tuesday, at 7pm.

We would like to hear from any residents who are concerned about flood risk and any works they feel could lower the risk. Drains or gullies near their homes may need repair or clearing.

There are funds available via West Sussex County Council’s Operation Watershed.

We are working with the National Flood Forum, which has a survey in progress of surface water flooding on new developments, or from new developments to surrounding homes.

West Sussex County Council is also looking for comments on its Local Flood Risk Management Strategy, available on its website or in libraries. The county council is now the lead flood authority for West Sussex.

The strategy booklet was produced after last year’s flooding and the county council wants to know if you think it is easy to understand and that all aspects are now covered. The council wants to know, do you agree with its approach?

The deadline for comments is Monday, September 9.

On its website, the council has a new Wet Spot Map, which shows where surface water gathers – all over town, in Littlehampton’s case. We are still awaiting a groundwater map, due this year by law, to show us where groundwater flooding has happened and could again.
