Forget squabbles to find a fair solution

HOW sad it is that our already discredited politicians indulge in this media squabbling about the very important issue of care for the elderly.

How important it is for them to take the necessary steps to sink their political differences and find a fair, long-term solution to this demographic time bomb?

Surely the situation requires a well thought-out, widely-consulted, long-term arrangement.

What a tragedy that our representatives are unable to rise above their short-term concerns about the imminent election.

A humane solution must be found to this ongoing problem.

If our elected politicians can't agree, perhaps it is time for a referendum?

However, care would have to be taken with regard to the composition of the questions.

Still, at the very least, this issue is now being widely discussed, and let's hope that a mature, realistic, constructive solution can be found.
