As part of the preparations for the summertime judging of the Storrington Riverside Walk entry in the South & South East in Bloom competition, Friends of Meadowside gathered with volunteers from the neighbourhood at the meadow for a Clean Up session on Saturday 12th April.

Tasks included litter picking, clearing of dead wood, cutting back of invasive tree suckers, pruning of intrusive brambles in the children’s play area and more litter picking!

The Riverside Walk entry begins at the meadow at the Eastern end of Storrington and follows the river through the town to Fryern Dell on the western side. A total distance of just over a mile. The meadow area is one of Storrington’s key conservation sites - the chalk stream hosting brown trout and water voles.

Future plans include further clean up sessions, the planting of a perennial wildflower drift around the edge of the meadow, an organised walk along the length of Riverside Walk, the reinstatement of an old pack horse bridge and some improvements to the parking area.

Special thanks to all those who helped on the day, including local residents and representatives from the Conservation Society, Storrington in Bloom and Storrington Horticultural Society.
