‘Give us a glimmer of hope... Please’

I HAVE read (Gazette, May 3) that it’s possible the Windmill Entertainment Centre could be closed by the council, and I’ve heard rumours that the Tamarisk Centre could be closed, too.

Last Friday night I went, with my neighbours, to see the Littlehampton Musical Comedy Society’s diamond anniversary show. We took along my neighbour’s grand-daughter, aged six, to see her mummy singing and dancing on the stage. She was as good as gold and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Who on earth runs the council, that they could ever think of giving this place the push?

I came down from London with my husband 25 years ago, to live here. For the first 10-15 years it was lovely. Now everything seems to be going downhill.

We have the Long Bench – no good for anyone to sit on. So-called shelters, which don’t provide any shelter. There is a flood along the seafront road from Norfolk Road towards Rustington, whenever it rains heavily.

More and more houses are being built, doing away with more and more greenery, and causing water shortages. Get the infrastructure right, first, please!

It seems to me that all they care about now are tourists, not the residents. Could it be that all they are interested in is the word money, instead of people?

It’s bad enough that the Government (whoever is in power) doesn’t seem to care about this country any more. Give us a glimmer of hope, please, and keep this town as we like it. Please!

There are other things I could mention. No hospital, and potholes all over the place – but I think I’ve said enough.

Let’s hope the council gives the other things I have mentioned plenty of thought.
