Have some family fun with St Mary’s

St Mary’s church is an amazing building- the oldest existing building in Horsham. It has been in continuous use for nearly eight centuries.

From 12noon - 4pm on Saturday July 18, we are having an open day with a fantastic range of activities to celebrate its life:- tours up the bell tower, demonstrations of the organ, talks about the vestments and the stained glass windows and various fun activities for the whole family. These will include graveyard treasure hunts, facepainting, trails, a find-the-animal quiz, a teddy zip wire and raft building! There will also be a BBQ and a café for refreshments. All money raised will go to the church’s conservation project.

Today the church is a wonderful community venue not just for daily worship but also for weddings, funerals, baptisms, carol concerts, special civic ceremonies, recitals and exhibitions.

It has a picturesque location at the end of the Causeway linking it with the town it serves; by the school, the nursery, the cricket field, the Memorial gardens and the shops & restaurants. It is as important today as ever.

Fiona Prentice, the church’s families’ & children’s worker, explained “We would love the families of Horsham to explore the church building and the beautiful churchyard, to find out more about the traditions, the symbolism of the colours, flowers & animals in the church as well as the history and craftsmanship. I hope that people aged 0-99 will have a wonderfully enriching and fun day out! “

All are welcome! Details can be found on www.stmaryshorsham.org.uk.
