Schools need governors who come with a range of different backgrounds, skills, experiences and viewpoints.

Governors have a corporate responsibility and work together as a team to make a difference to the lives of young people. Being a governor is a rewarding and effective way of making a voluntary contribution to your community and the lives of local young people.

Governors at Castlewood School achieve these objectives through two committees, each meeting twice per term in the evenings. Our Ofsted report in March 2013 said ‘The governing body has a good balance of professional skills which are used to good effect to provide support and challenge for the school.’

It commented that governors ‘ are well informed about the quality of teaching, including what is being done to secure good teaching and to provide support where needed’ and that Governors know how pupil premium funding is used to provide support for eligible pupils and how this is helping these pupils to learn and achieve well.’
