Homebase duo to climb Mount Kilimanjaro

Their climb of Mount Kilimanjaro this January supports Hombase’s charity partners to support people living with dementia to stay in their own homes and be part of community life for longer.

Standing at 19,341ft, Mount Kilimajaro in Tanzania is the world’s highest free-standing mountain. Aimee and Jessica will be joined by 25 others - also fundraising for Alzheimer’s Society - during the six-day climb taking place 15 – 25 January.

In order to raise funds ahead of the challenge, the enthusiastic pair have already ran a series of quiz nights, bakes sales and most recently, have been dressed as Christmas elves during in-store collections at the Horsham Homebase.

When asked about how she was feeling about the challenge, Aimee Rogers said: “Although the thought of the climb is really daunting, I’m so pleased to be fundraising for Alzheimer’s Society.

“Dementia is a cause close to the hearts of so many people including myself. My grandfather had Alzheimer’s disease so I know the impact the disease has on all those it touches. Knowing that the climb will help support people living with dementia in my local area will be great motivation to help me reach the top.’”

Homebase fundraising will go towards helping thousands of people with dementia stay in their own home and be part of community life for longer.

Together Alzheimer’s Society, Alzheimer Scotland and The Alzheimer Society of Ireland are Argos and Homebase’s charity partner 2013 – 2015.

The money raised by Argos and Homebase colleagues and customers will fund Singing for the Brain® groups, Dementia Cafes and Dementia Support services around the UK and Ireland.
