Huge thanks to Worthing Hospital

WHEN so many letters and comments have negative overtones, we want to celebrate and give thanks for the NHS.

Our daughter gave birth at the beginning of December to our first grandson, but only after some very traumatic moments.

Had it not been for an alert midwife who came on duty that Tuesday morning, the outcomes may have been different. She immediately noticed something wrong, swung into action, got the medical and surgical teams involved and the baby was born by emergency surgery a few minutes later.

Still not out of the woods, the midwife and others in the team on the delivery unit at Worthing Hospital were wonderful in their care and diligence with our daughter and new grandson. Very high blood pressure for mum and a low heart rate for the baby meant hours of careful monitoring.

As pastor of a local church in Littlehampton, we had many people praying for a successful outcome and, thank God, mum and baby are now both doing really well seven weeks on.

But we also want to say "thank you" to the team of midwives, doctors, nurses and others who gave such unstinting care when needed – you did a wonderful job and it's only right that we publicly acknowledge and affirm you in your work.

Thank you.
