‘I am appalled...’

I AM appalled at the decision of the Conservative group of Littlehampton Town Council to split and move the Town Show and Family Fun Day.

It beggars belief that Alan Gammon, as chairman of the town council community resources committee, can go against the unanimous wishes of more than 70 people present at the annual town meeting, without a plausible, valid reason, other than, as he terms it, “savings”.

It is a wonderful community event, where all the townspeople and local voluntary organisations can get together once a year, communicate with each other and promote their services to the whole town, truly benefiting from each other.

With all the displays, arena events, local groups and stage acts, it makes a memorable day out for the whole family. A rare opportunity for people to go out and have fun.

Mr Gammon and his party were elected to carry out the wishes of the townspeople, not to dictate to them. One should remember elections are always on the horizon.
