Impressive flowers at summer show

Despite difficult growing conditions this spring, the standard of the flowers and produce on display at the annual West Chiltington Horticultural Society Summer Show was of the highest quality.

The judges, Doris Smallwood and Barry Newman, commented that they have always been impressed by the standard of exhibits but this year had been the best to date.

The show attracted 171 exhibits including specimen roses, magnificent spires of delphiniums, beautiful bowls of garden flowers, and fine displays of vegetables.

The judges thought that all the gardeners who entered were to be commended on their efforts and that there were some outstanding exhibits, notably the roses entered by Janet Methley, which included the best exhibit in the show.

Overall winners for most points in the show were Pat and Denis Wright who won the Society Cup.

Jean Hoadley the Show Secretary, who organised the show, said she was delighted with the quality of the exhibits and the enthusiasm shown by members.

It was also pleasing that there were a number of new entrants this year and she hoped that other members would be encouraged to participate in future shows.
