Is steel British?

I WAS rather surprised that Andrew Gilham, the Environment Agency’s flood and coastal risk manager for Sussex (Gazette, March 21), made no mention of the value of the steel contract or the major fillip that the manufacture of 3,000 tons of piling should have given our struggling steel industry.

I hope this does not mean the agency, without regard for the need to protect our fragile, strategic industrial base, nevertheless placed an order abroad for cheaper steel?
