LETTER: First time buyers totally let down

I read the article ‘Vital help for the needy’ by Mr Quin our new MP thinking that he might be talking about young people looking to move out of the parental home and buy their first one bedroomed flat – or something to call their ‘new home’.

The piece was about Food Banks and Universal Credit – very important issues and an opportunity for a picture in his green smock to show that he really is ‘one of us’ and ‘mucking in’.

But does he really understand what is going on in housing on his patch? Led by developers (such as Liberty Property Trust an American company) who do not want to build affordable houses because their profit is too small and a council leadership too weak to stand up to developers, inspectors and ministers – our young needy first time buyers are being totally let down.

If you allow our MP to have such a privileged position with half a page every week – surely it should be a condition that he deals with issues like the lack of affordable housing, the impending shortfall of 500 secondary school places for pupils in Horsham Town from September 2017, the absence of a local A&E hospital, flooding, zero CIL in North Horsham, traffic, the secretive leadership style in the district council – all of which he studiously avoids.
