LETTER: Handyperson scheme launch

Age UK Horsham District, with part funding from West Sussex County Council, will be expanding its local, trusted Help at Home Scheme to include gardening and handyperson help with those little jobs around the home and garden.

With the closure of some local services, Age UK Horsham District has been receiving more and more calls from people who need trusted help with odd jobs.

In response, the gardening and handyperson register has been launched.

Janice Leeming, CEO of Age UK Horsham District says: “As a local charity we are committed to providing services that respond to local need. We know that local older people want trusted, reasonably priced support to remain safe and independent and our new handyperson and gardening service is designed to

provide just that.”

West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Community Wellbeing, Christine Field, said: “This service will help residents remain independent and

safe and well in the comfort of their own surroundings. Services such as this one can really make a difference to an individual’s quality of life, which is a key aim of public health.”

Older people and vulnerable adults living alone in the Horsham District who are finding it difficult keeping their garden mowed and tidy or small handyperson tasks they are not capable of completing, can now contact the Help at Home office on 01403 751322.

Our friendly, supportive co-ordinators will assign a registered, referenced and police checked self employed person to visit.
