LETTER: Major need for community facility

I live about a quarter of a mile from their old ground and only on the odd occasion did I hear any noise.

I can understand why the Holbrook Club was turned down, but to turn down the Hop Oast site beggars belief.

What more do the councillors want? It’s well away from the town (noise), has a large under-used council car park with its own direct bus running all day about 100 yards from the proposed ground and straight off a major roundabout on the A24.

Do councillors think people will walk or cycle one and a half miles from the town to the ground? Come on!

There was a major need for these facilities and this ground would, with its all weather pitches, have offered it and would have brought football in Horsham into the 21st century, and with all the add that were being offered was a no brainer.

The 13 councillors who voted no have done the town a great disservice and failed to see the long term picture. I hope they will think twice before voting again when it comes to appeal.

It is not whether you hate football but what the new football ground could have offered the wider the community as a whole and at no cost to the public purse.
