LETTER: Support for bowls club is gratifying

It was even more satisfying to hear so much spoken support from the general public and see their eagerness to sign the petition. The reaction from the public was complete incomprehension how the council could consider that bowls is no longer wanted.
Bowls has been around for many years, even Sir Francis Drake took time out of bowls to sink the Spanish Armada! (I hope he resumed the game to win). I hope that Jonathan Chowen will equally take notice and sink the opposition to bowls.

Hide AdMy message to Jonathan Chowen, council member responsible for these decisions is listen to the people, bowls is played from all sections of the community and many depend on the social and leisure activities it provides.
My ditty to Jonathan Chowen:
Dear Jon please listen to the people’s plea
We all want our bowls just you wait and see
Just turn your back on the electorate
and you may find yourself without an act
Try it yourself and you maybe surprised
Your faith in our sport could be baptised.
Dear, dear Jon, listen, it is not too late
Just give it some thought it is a mistake
You have a tough job we all understand
Listen to the facts and be a big man
We don’t ask for much, just a basic right
to pay our own way come day and night.
Oh! dear, dear, dear Jon what have you gone done
Upsetting the old, the blind and children
All of these just ask for somewhere to play
just occupied and not going astray
There is such a place not far from town’s hub
It’s called simply Horsham Indoor Bowls Club
I hope I am being listened to but I would ask all the other readers to write in and express their concern over the councils decision and please feel free to add to my ditty anything they would consider appropriate.
