LETTER: Villages suffering aircraft noise

I write to thank the County Times for coverage of the recent CAGNE event in Horsham and to say that I am in full support of their aims.

I live in Bidborough, a village in Kent, 18 miles East of Gatwick and potentially directly under the proposed superhighway of concentrated aircraft that seems to be going ahead whether Gatwick’s second runway is built or not.

I have experienced a massive increase in low-level noise these past 12 months without reason or rationale. Night flights have also increased and are lower, yet factually based complaints remain unanswered.

I helped organise a village information meeting last week. We had over 40 residents from Bidborough, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells and guest speakers to discuss our concerns over Gatwick’s plans.

In my opinion ‘Gatwick Obviously’ is a shamefully biased campaign. Local residents deserve debate and information, not PR.

Why should a swathe of villages receive the full impact of blatant profiteering? Is Gatwick not big enough?
