LETTER: Wonderful guide

It was good to see Mr Thornton’s photograph of an Egyptian Goose in your 13th March edition.

According to the wonderful ‘Birds of Sussex’ just published by The Sussex Ornithological Society (and sponsored by WSCC and Southern Water) the first sighting was in 1978, and the first presumed breeding in 2000. After some ups and downs since then there was a population of 40 at the last count in 2011.

‘Birds of Sussex’ has excellent maps showing breeding and distribution for almost every species known to have been seen in Sussex.
