Artists Anna Caunter, who is also a parent at the school, said: “I feel I am the fortunate one to have been able to be a part of the school for this time.

“The staff and children in it have made it an absolute pleasure due to the endless enthusiasm and encouragement they offered.”

The library has been transformed into a castle battlement with dragons and fairies, and alongside the new library furniture which the Home School Association has made a big contribution towards, Anna hopes that their new surroundings will help to inspire a greater love of reading and be a peaceful environment for the children to work in.

Anna worked tirelessly to complete the library for the grand opening today and said she could not have done it without the help of other parents, who also gave their time and wanted to be involved.

She enjoyed the fact that some parents whilst helping realised they could actually paint!

The response from the children is so positive; it is a brighter and more open space, with comfortable seating areas in which to enjoy their favourite books.

Mrs Dutson, Headteacher, added “The library has been completely transformed. It is such a wonderful space now and the children absolutely love using it already. It has been such an exciting project.

“We have watched Mrs Caunter and her helpers at work over the last term and seen the project grow before our eyes! I would like to thank Mrs Caunter, and all the other parents who helped, and also the HSA for their contribution – we couldn’t have done it without them all.”

St Mary’s is very lucky to have such a community feel about it, Parents come and help regularly with reading, sewing, cooking etc. For the opening of the library today, they had a storyteller come in and the children were all enjoying reading and related activities.
