‘Make a stand to save Horsham’s green spaces’

Having just returned from Somerset where I enjoyed the experience of walking through Green Fields and beautiful unspoilt countryside, I felt real sorrow over the continuous development on green spaces in Horsham.

I went on a walk near Rookwood public golf course and seeing lots of golfers enjoying it I was deeply saddened to learn of plans to build on it as it obviously gives a lot of pleasure to many people and is affordable to use.

It’s a lovely open space adjacent to Warnham Nature Reserve which will also be greatly impacted to its detriment if plans go ahead.

These such public spaces are a precious resource and I feel strongly we should do all we can to keep them.

We have had extensive house building in Horsham in recent years. Further development if it is devoid of affordable housing and no added infrastructure i.e. medical centres, schools etc. or in an unsuitable place is unwelcome.

Land Grab

They pack them in stack them high,

They ignore the public outcry.

They dig up the trees, flowers and soil,

They never mind the bees and the wildlife they spoil.

They’ll sacrifice the well being of our nature reserve,

To secure contracts they think they deserve.

Loads of money will come their way,

And they will go on to develop and more bricks lay.

They’ll tell the locals they know best,

As they demolish another bird’s nest.

Citizens of Horsham let’s make a stand

For the Drill Hall, Rookwood, etc etc

And save Horsham’s green and pleasant land.
