New homes, same old problems

I HAVE lived in Galley Hill View for 10 years now and I am not happy about the proposed Barratt housing development.

The cul- de- sac access road is only able to take one vehicle at a time (not all the properties in Ashdown road have garages/parking so have to park on the road) but the fact that in last week’s Observer Mr Phillips is quoted as saying they were confident the local road network can support the proposed development, amazes me!

In 2006 the ‘ Adopted Rother District Local Plan’ stated that for the proposed 48 dwellings …. “It (the land) has direct access from Ashdown Road, although some improvements are needed ...”

As for St Richards buses, the man I spoke to said they will not be allowed to turn in the entrance to the estate and frankly it is not their problem, it is the school’s! I think by that comment alone you can see how this exhibition went.

We all agree the land is badly contaminated, but what nasties will they be releasing once the digging starts? What about the Health and Safety of the residents and St Richards students and staff? Sometimes it’s best to leave well alone.

I took a photo of some of the plans and the “Schedule of Dwellings” states: “Social Housing” and not “Affordable Housing”.

There will be a meeting for people from Galley Hill View, Ashdown Road, The Finches, some of Links Drive and any others from surrounding properties who are concerned, in approximately three weeks’ time.

I think most residents have been notified, but with the date and venue still to follow
