Not listening

In reply to a question put to the leader of the council, Gill Brown, during the public question time in the full Arun District Council (ADC) meeting on Wednesday, March 5, Mrs Brown stated that ‘extensive consultations’ have taken place with the residents in Wick on the proposed building of new council houses in the residents’ car parks and on their green areas. There were 650 letters sent out by ADC inviting residents to a consultation meeting on December 9, 2013, at the Keystone Centre, Eldon Way, Wick.

It is obvious from replies to individual objection letters that ADC seem to have only noted comments on parking and play areas. This is not right. We had many and various written objections and concerns with our names and addresses included, which we put into the comment boxes ADC provided. One Consultation meeting with greatly shocked residents and 15 days to comment before closing is not ‘extensive consultations’.

New council houses are desperately needed but ADC must take into consideration the distressing effect on existing residents.
