Parking ticket's a taste of the future

DAVID Simmons looks to be one of those who will get an awful shock when the new parking enforcement commences (Gazette letters, May 20).

He was on double yellow lines, right under a sign that clearly states "no parking April to September". What did he expect?

The particular problem with locations like the now unused bus stop at Sea Lane, Rustington, is that parking restrictions are never changed to reflect changed circumstances.

Parking restriction is a hugely bureaucratic, costly and lengthy process and our local authority, having implemented something, has no incentive to go through all that again to modify it.

In the bay at the end of Sea Lane, a modification to allow short stays is very appropriate. We, the tax-paying motorist, will need to fund it.

Is the new enforcement to be July 6, as intimated by another reader recently?

I have seen nothing official. I spoke to a parking person a couple of weeks ago and he said he had not been told of a date, what he would be doing thereafter or even if he would have a job in the new arrangements.

I hope you will do a prominent article in your issue of July 1 to give your readers a timely warning.

Editor's note: rest assured, Mr Morris, we will be keeping Gazette readers fully informed in the run-up to Arun taking over civil parking enforcement.
