Pavement is safer

AS A cyclist, I write in support of George Smith's letter (Gazette, October 8), regarding speeding traffic along the "mad mile" of Sea Road.

I have often run the gauntlet of speeding cars along this stretch, and after being almost run down earlier this year, when a car clipped my pedal and knocked me onto the pavement, I now ride on the pavement.

Obviously this is much to the annoyance of mums with prams, pedestrians, and old folk in mobility scooters, but I'd rather listen to their groans than run the risk of another incident.

With the increase in cars using this stretch, surely the time has come for some form of traffic calming. I'm sure a speed camera would make a fortune for the local authority.

With the onset of winter, this stretch will, hopefully, become quieter, but please can something be done before the inevitable happens?
