Photo remembered

REGARDING the old photograph you printed (Gazette, April 28) with Tony Squires’ letter (Do you remember when Lady Godiva met the Sea Scouts?), my brother Roy Cole is holding the flag and I think this must have been a carnival procession.

He spent the last years of the Second World War in the RAF, so I reckon the late 1930s is about the time the photo was taken. He then spent his working life at the council, in the surveyor’s office and was also well-known for being an original member of the lifeboat crew, even going out with the Blue Peter 1 lifeboat to India to help when there was flooding.

He lived in this area all his life, and died a couple of years ago.

I hope this helps Tony in some way.

The family connection with Sea Scouts has continued and we now have a grandson who is a member at Bognor.
