Plenty of empty houses to fill

IN response to the letter (Gazette, July 23) from the Ford Enterprise Hub people, as we apparently have some 4,000 households on the waiting list in Arun, I would like to ask why do we have so many unoccupied properties in the district?

We have, in Woodlands Avenue, Rustington, a partially-completed block of flats, and the same in Sea Road, East Preston, and, of course, the development in Church Road, Littlehamp-ton. There are also many empty new houses on the Hargreaves site at Worthing Road, Littlehampton, and on the Toddington Lane site.

There are numerous other properties standing empty'“ all these should be utilised by the council to clear some of the housing backlog.Then, and only then, when it has been established how many more houses are needed, should we entertain any thoughts of building more homes in this area.
