Politics irrelevant in local elections

I WOULD like to endorse Dr Walsh's statement (Gazette, May 24) that Littlehampton town councillors have always put the town before politics.

It is due to this attitude that we have a town council to be proud of.

However, this statement was not carried through when it came to the last round of elections.

It would appear to a layman and local resident that the key aim of certain parties was not one of supporting fellow councillors, but one of getting Blair out.

I would like to ask how voting against some excellent councillors who represented a certain political party was going to influence anything nationally?

I feel that national politics should have very little part to play in the actions of Littlehampton Town Council and I always make a point of reading what current councillors have achieved rather that what party they support.

I think that the townspeople should be assured that the new council is going to keep up the excellent work of its predecessors and is not going to make any cuts.

The Town Show and Family Fun Day are much appreciated.

The Dairy Community Centre and Project 82 are much-needed services.

The A team is vital to keeping our town looking clean. These activities must be preserved.

We do not want another Arun District Council scenario '“ that is, cuts to services at any price.
