Potential death trap fear

I FEEL I must comment on the deteriorating situation concerning traffic along Sea Road, Rustington, commonly known as the "Mad Mile".

For those unfamiliar, this stretch of road runs from the bottom of Sea Lane, Rustington, up to the bend at the East Beach Caf in Littlehampton, over a mile of completely straight, flat road, between the beach and the residential area, including Mewsbrook Park.

Cars are often witnessed at ludicrous speeds along this potential death trap of a road, especially after dark, where the more undesirable elements of society regularly use this stretch as if it were part of a grand prix circuit.

I have brought this matter to the attention of the local council and police authority, but with no satisfactory outcome. It seems that unless a fatality occurs, there are no plans for traffic calming or speed cameras.

Let us hope that this will not be another example of locking the stable door after the horse has bolted.
