Rye allotments pledge from candidates

We the undersigned, candidates for Rye Town Council in the election to be held on 5 May 2011, hereby declare personal interests in certain matters that will come before the council, by reason of our being members of the Rye Allotments Association or closely related to electors who are.

If elected we will:

1. Reject offers of a lease on the allotments by Rother District Council because this would mean legally signing away ownership forever

2. Support the campaign to have the freehold returned to Rye Town Council as is required by the Local Government Act 1972

3. Re-register the allotments as statutory allotments at the Land Registry in Rye Town Council’s name, thereby safeguarding them for all time or until an Act of Parliament decides otherwise

4. Support the existing Rye Allotments Association as the body to manage the allotments on behalf of the town council, at no cost to the council taxpayers.
