School community comes together for harvest feast

Parents were invited to join children in years 1-5 for a special assembly, led by new deputy head Mrs Caroline Fowler and featuring songs, speeches, poems and artwork presented by the children.

A competition was held for young gardeners including longest bean and most unusually-shaped vegetable, and budding cooks also showed their talents by baking an array of beautiful sponge cakes and crispy treats. Art lovers had the chance to show their talents by drawing flowers.

Vicar at St Mary’s Church the Rev Malcolm Acheson said a short prayer before new reception children joined the rest of the school in the playground for a harvest feast.

The event is one of many held each year which bring the whole school community together.

Headteacher Mr Garry Smart made his famous paella which was hugely enjoyed by children and their families along with pizza and home-made cakes, and home-grown produce was also sold to raise funds for the school.
