Science definitely fun for boys at Forest School

Colour changing chemicals, bubbling potions and big bangs were the order of the night when Forest School held their ever popular Science is Fun evening last week.

More than 200 parents and pupils from local primary schools packed the hall for a dramatic demonstration of all things weird and wonderful, hosted by Forest Science legend ‘Doc Roc’.

As if this wasn’t enough, pupils and their parents were then invited into the laboratories to try out a series of exciting and often explosive experiments for themselves.

“This evening is great fun,” said Steve Miles, subject team leader for science, he went on to add: “Science is very strong at Forest. Earlier this year our pupils represented the Southern Region at the National Big Bang after winning the Regional competition. It was great to see so many young budding scientists this evening and who knows, they could be future winners in the making!”

With Forest pupils on hand to help the younger boys and to lead the experiments in the classrooms everyone had the opportunity to have a go at some exciting experiments for themselves.

Parents and pupils agreed that the evening was ‘awesome’, as one lad put it, “I had an awesome time and the Forest pupils were really friendly and helpful.” Parents also praised Forest pupils with one mother adding “It was great to see the Forest boys leading the experiments in the classroom. They were very confident up there in front of so many boys and parents that they didn’t know. It clearly showed that they were very proud of their school.”

Forest’s Community & Enrichment Manager, Laura Ward, added “Not only does the evening help to inspire young minds about the wonders of science; it also gives boys and their parents another great opportunity to meet staff and pupils at the school and experience a small slice of what life at Forest is like.”
