To make high quality shows that will attract audiences used to seeing film and television dramas, SDS needs a wow-factor when the curtain rises.

Great set-designers and creative set-builders can only do so much; the quality of the materials used to build the sets and furnish them is equally important.

For many years, SDS has been storing scenery and bulky props in a shipping container sited on the premises of a local business. Unfortunately, the container is approaching the end of its useful life and the contents are becoming increasingly damp.

Also, the site itself will soon no longer be available. Recently, it was necessary to cover the roof with a tarpaulin, but this can only be a stop-gap solution to the problem.

SDS is now actively seeking replacement storage facilities. These need to be dry (!), as spacious as possible, accessible with a good sized van and within a reasonable distance of Sullington Parish Hall.

Funds are, of course, limited, but the Society is prepared to look at any suitable possibilities.

Please do consider if you could offer SDS a solution to the problem. Do you know of anybody needing to rid themselves of an old garage, stable or Portacabin? The members of SDS would be happy to dismantle and remove. Are you aware of a disused industrial building, or other premises?

Let them know and they will see if they can track down the owner.

Any offers of storage are welcome! Please contact Roy Stevens (SDS Chairman) by telephone on 07557781408, or by email on [email protected]

Storrington Dramatic Society’s annual programme comprises a good selection of comedies, dramas, and revues, along with a popular pantomime performed by a large cast each December.

There are also regular social events, including quiz nights and outings to professional and other local amateur productions. The next show for SDS will be the famous thriller by Arnold Ridley, “The Ghost Train”, which is due to be performed from 19 to 21 March.

Rehearsal evenings are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7.45pm, and any prospective new members over the age of 12 years are very welcome to go along - whether interested in acting, directing or backstage work, or just keen to be involved with a friendly social group.
